Como to Cernobbio Walk: Lakefront, Villa Parks and the Boat Back

Start on Piazza Cavour, where the Navigazione piers and the city side of the walk meet. The straight line from the square to the Tempio Voltiano is 500 m, about 9 minutes, our estimate. The lakefront stretch itself is described on our Lungolago Passeggiata page.

The Tempio Voltiano, the temple to Alessandro Volta, stands at Viale Marconi 1 on the lakeshore. It opens Tuesday to Sunday 10:00-18:00 with last entry at 17:30, and closes Mondays, 1 January, 1 May, 15 August and 25 December. The civic single ticket costs $6.92 (€6). If you want it inside your walking day, note the Monday closure.

From the Tempio Voltiano the straight line to Villa Olmo is 895 m, about 15 minutes, our estimate, so the whole lakefront stage from Piazza Cavour is 1,394 m straight line, about 23 minutes, our estimate. Villa Olmo is a neoclassical villa from the late 18th century. The Comune's page says the villa building is currently closed for restoration while the park is regularly open, and that visits to the villa are free when it is open. Entry to the park is free. The villa and park are described as partly accessible for reduced mobility, which is the only accessibility statement published for the route. Park opening hours are not stated on the Comune page read.

The Chilometro della Conoscenza is a cultural path and green corridor linking the parks of Villa Olmo, Villa del Grumello and Villa Sucota, about one kilometre long, according to Villa del Grumello's own site. It crosses the road to Cernobbio twice, on the Ponte del Chilometro and the Ponte del Grumello. Partners include the Chamber of Commerce of Como, the Comune di Como, Associazione Villa del Grumello, Fondazione Antonio Ratti and others.

The catch is the hours. The parks keep office hours, not park hours. Villa del Grumello, at via per Cernobbio 11, opens Monday to Friday 9:00-17:00 and Sundays and holidays 9:00-18:00, and closes on Saturdays and in bad weather for safety. Villa Sucota, at via per Cernobbio 19, seat of the Fondazione Antonio Ratti, opens Monday to Friday 9:30-12:30 and 14:30-17:30 and closes on weekends. On a Saturday neither is open, so a Saturday walker cannot use the park path and should stay on the lakefront to Villa Olmo or take the boat.

Two conflicting claims about Villa Olmo's park exist. Regione Lombardia's in-lombardia.it says the park is under renovation and inaccessible. The Comune di Como's own Villa Olmo page, updated 18/03/2026, says the park is regularly open. The Comune owns Villa Olmo, so its page wins. On price, no entry price is printed for Villa del Grumello's park. Villa Sucota states free admission.

The table puts the three parks' published hours side by side, from Villa del Grumello's site, the Fondazione Antonio Ratti site and the Comune di Como. Check your day of the week against it before you set out.

No official page describes the stretch from Villa Sucota to Cernobbio. Not Villa del Grumello's site, not the Comune di Como, not Regione Lombardia's in-lombardia.it, not the Lake Como DMO. Nothing official read states whether a continuous footway runs along via per Cernobbio for this stretch. The straight line from Villa Sucota to the Cernobbio pier is 1,710 m, which gives about 28 minutes, our estimate, but a straight line says nothing about the pavement.

What to do instead, our advice, clearly labelled as ours: start the last stretch and look at the road. If the pavement is narrow, missing or feels unsafe, turn back rather than press on. From Villa Olmo the straight line to the Cernobbio pier is 2,459 m, about 40 minutes, our estimate, but the same official silence applies. The documented fallback is to walk back to Villa Olmo and the Como lakefront. The C110 bus stops at Cernobbio Mazzini, and the stops between Villa Sucota and Cernobbio are not listed on this page, so do not count on catching it on the way. If the footway is fine, continue to Cernobbio.

A negative finding is still information. Treat stage 3 as optional and decide on the ground, with the boat and bus as the documented plan B.

The boat is the short ride, about 13-14 minutes from Cernobbio pier back to Como, and it costs band 1, $3.46 (€3) one way. Runs shown are examples read from the timetable, and individual runs may be weekday only or daily, so check the operator's own timetable for your date. The C110 bus is the land option, taking 11 minutes from Cernobbio Mazzini to Como San Giovanni station, mostly at :01 and :31 past the hour on weekdays.

No C110 fare for Como-Cernobbio is printed on the pages read, so no bus price is given here.

The table lists example return boats from the Navigazione timetable and the C110 bus pattern from the ASF winter timetable, with the one fare that is published.

Two timetable seasons apply. The summer boat timetable runs to 4 October 2026, and the autumn timetable from 5 October to 1 November 2026 prints the same Como departures on the runs read. Buying a boat ticket on board at a pier with an open ticket office costs €1 extra, so buy at the office when you can.

Take a morning boat from Como to Cernobbio first. Published example runs leave Como at 9:10 arriving Cernobbio 9:24, and 10:00 arriving 10:13, again in band 1 at $3.46 (€3). From the Cernobbio pier, walk back toward Villa Sucota and Como with the same caveat as before, that no official page describes this stretch and you judge the footway on the ground.

On a weekday morning the timing works in your favour for the parks. Villa Sucota opens 9:30 on weekdays, so a 10:00 boat arrival lets you reach it within its morning window of 9:30-12:30. Villa del Grumello opens 9:00 on weekdays, so it is open from the start. You then walk the Chilometro della Conoscenza in its open hours and finish along the lakefront.

Ending in Como lets you close the day at the Tempio Voltiano before its last entry at 17:30, since the museum is open Tuesday to Sunday until 18:00. On a Monday the museum is closed, so swap it for another stop in the centre.

• Weekdays are the best day. All three parks on the Chilometro della Conoscenza are open, Villa Olmo's park regularly, Villa del Grumello 9:00-17:00, Villa Sucota 9:30-12:30 and 14:30-17:30.
• Sundays and holidays leave only one park on the path. Villa del Grumello opens 9:00-18:00, Villa Sucota is closed, so plan the middle stage around Grumello only.
• Saturdays are lakefront days. Both Grumello and Sucota are closed, so the walk works only as far as Villa Olmo unless you take the boat out and back.
• Mondays close the Tempio Voltiano, which shuts every Monday apart from two 2026 exceptions. The lakefront and the parks are unaffected.
• Rain closes Villa del Grumello's park for safety, so a wet day pushes you back to the lakefront stage or the boat.
